Child's Posture- Balasana

I believe in love at first sight, I really do. I will never forget when I first experienced it. I found myself entering into my very first yoga class and we were instructed to move into a child's posture, also known as balasana, and that is when I knew that I was in love.

I was guided to bring my toes together, part knees and walk my arms out in front of me to then invite my heart towards the earth and resting my head heavy on the mat. Oh sweet surrender. What a relief to find myself in this gorgeous, comforting pose. As I breathed in and out, I felt the gentle rise and fall of my belly on my legs. I noticed my body fully relaxing as I folded into myself and lulled to deep peace with the rhythm of my breath. I was hooked.

You don't have to be a yogi to receive the benefits from this simple and gentle pose, you can come into it anytime you need.... I mean maybe not anytime considering you may not want to rest your head on the grocery store floor but you do you, boo!

The physical benefits of this pose;

Releases tension in back, shoulders and chest

Great for dizziness and fatigue

Lengthens and stretches spine

Supports internal organs

Boosts circulation

Supports digestion

Emotional benefits:

Calms the brain

Relieves stress

Reminds you to rest
